The Beauty of the Competent Master

Excerpts from Satsang by Biji Surinder Kaur on 4 July 1999, St. Gilgen, translated from Punjabi
( originally published as “By devotion one gets dyed in His colour” in “Sayings of Sant Kirpal Singh 1999-2
and also on the web site unity-of-man.org with the title “Biji Surinder Kaur about Sant Kirpal Singh”)

In order to understand the competency of the Master, we must know Him and His way. He is the inhabitant of the true home. To get the advantage of the spiritual way, we need the inner nectar from Him. From whom can we get it? Only from the One Who is competent.

Sant Kirpal Singh

That Power is unique, He comes to us in a human pole. He is the one who gives us grace. While living in His physical body, he does not have any spot of worldly things on Him. He does not have any shortcomings. His walk is like that of the chakor (mythical bird who is in love with the moon), and His eyes are shining like those of a lion. As one cannot see the walking of the chakor, in the same way one cannot realize how He is. When we stand before Him, we cannot withstand His eyes, as they are shining like a lion’s eyes, and we start trembling because of our weakness.

Even if thousands of people try to imitate Him, no one can be like Him, as no one can get the colour that He has inside. Where that Power lives, there He is the Giver of grace, and free of cost He gives His mercy to all souls. As air, water, and sunlight are free, in the same way the teaching of the Saints is also given to us without being charged for it.

When Sant Kirpal Singh came on the stage to hold Satsang, everybody who saw His face was attracted by His radiation. With His inner radiation He united the souls. All people said, “Master was looking only at us.”

What is the beauty of the competent Master due to? He lives in modesty and full equipoise. That Murshid (spiritual teacher) has opened the inner door and established the house of truth for us. When the tree is loaden with fruits, its branches bow down to us, this is the highest blessing of Him. In the same way, with His Naam (the Word), the Murshid gives the colour of His nectar to His disciple.

How does He give this colour? When we are in Sahaj Avastha, absorbed in His Samadhi, He gives this devotion. If a soul takes earnest efforts in meditation, in Naam, and while sitting in Sahaj Samadhi, the soul reaches the house of Master and prays: “Make Your house in my heart.”

The key of my life is in Your house, and only the soul’s yearning makes You open the door. Only under Your protecting umbrella one can go this path, otherwise we stand before the door of the others (the false masters). Come and see my inner condition and guide me also outside. Only when we have reached You after many shakings, You take us in Your hand and give us the contact with the Anahad Bani, till we become one with it.

This world has many thorny bushes, and without You it is very hard to walk through.

“O my Satguru, be my companion for ever,
You should always have Your hand on me
so that I do not go far from You.”

With a strong grip You have taken the key of our life in Your hand. Only when You open the door of Satlok, can we rise above this body (and get there inside). Otherwise we will lose this chance and blind we will go from this world again.”

When Master held Satsang, people often went to Him afterwards and said, “Master, this Satsang was just for me, now I could understand.” Then Master replied,

“When the Master Power gives Satsang,
He develops His souls into Saints,
and when they are perfect,
He takes them back to their eternal home.”

If a soul has not become a Saint, the Master, who has come to work in this world, cannot take the soul back in such a condition. He wants each soul to become a Saint. Then only He can take her back.

When the soul goes the path of Bhakti or devotion, the soul realizes that in the end all the worldly people will not be of any use to her. How can one take a bath in the inner Sarovar (holy pond), unless one takes a bath in this Sarovar here? And what is meant by this Sarovar? It is the Satsang – there Master is giving showers of His Amrit and gives a bath to the soul. He removes the covers from the soul, and in this way prepares the soul to take her back.

When this bird flies away – when death comes to fetch us – we will forget all the activities of the world. Even the things which we always have in our mind we will forget. When we have to face death, he makes us forget all and everything.

When you get the message from the one who sent us into this world, telling us that the number of our breaths has finished, the soul gets aware, “I have only been the companion of manmukhs (people who are under control of the mind) and I have just been wandering about in the world.”

The soul cries, “The time when He guided us, was a good time, I should have used it to prepare myself. Now even the trees of the forest are shaking, their leaves are burnt and fall to the ground.”

Then one cannot do anything, one has to stand in face of death and go with him. When the time has come for the account of the soul’s deeds, the Master Power sees if there is any good action of the soul so that the Master can help her.

Then the soul cries, “Only if one gets the company of the competent Master, one can complete this path.”

Hazur often said that it is the most difficult time for the soul when she has to leave. All your outer friends are near you, but for the soul it is a very hard time. The souls that have developed devotion are going in peace, the others are crying when they have to leave. His hand reaches very long when the soul does something wrong, He can grasp the soul from inside.

He lives beyond the seven planes. He has no selfish motive, He does not need anything from us, His “shop” is full with everything. When one meets the Master who resides above the seven planes, the soul is drawn within. After doing the hardship (of meditation), one sees the radiant form of Him. Then you do not only see His radiant form, but He will also talk with you in a very profound way. When you reach this stage, Master is there day and night with the soul.

When the soul has reached the eternal home, it exclaims

“I have recognized my Father, whom I will never forget!
I have seen the home of my Father, but where does He live?
He lives in us.
Oh man, you are looking at the faults in others,
but look into yourself and remove this weakness,
see that your Father lives in you!
He resides in you, He takes rest in you.”

Bhagats (devoted disciples) are always afraid of getting involved (in something wrong) in the world. They cry to Master:

See to it that my inner bhakti (devotion)
may not be seen by anybody outside.
I am always thirsty, and our Father Kirpal calls out to us:
‘O people of the world, I have brought water for you.’

When there are clouds, there is hope for rain, and when Master brings water for us, there is hope for us to be able to drink it, as there is hope for getting fruits when there are blossoms on the tree. When we have sweet remembrance and yearning for Him in our heart, He will find a way to come.

The Bhagats, those who are really devoted, do the hardship and always pray to Him,

“Where shall I make Your bed in me so that You can sit on it all the time?
And how should my eyes be that nobody will see You when You come?
There is only one way:
Come and hide in my eyes so that nobody may see You, but You see everybody.
And if this is not acceptable for You either, just make my love for You very strong!”

When the soul gets the water from Master inside, the soul cannot live separate from Him even for a short moment. Bhaji (Dr Harbhajan Singh) said,

“If you wish to make the inner journey,
you should be the companion of the Gurmukh
(perfect disciple, ‘mouthpiece of the Guru’),
a companion of the Sangat,
and get the nectar of God, then He is always with you.”

Master explains to the soul:

“Why do the worldly people suffer so much?
They are constantly involved in finding the faults in the world,
they are always busy with worldly things.
Oh soul, you have not been sent into the world for that purpose,
you should look at your own self,
for what purpose you have come here —
but now (when you are in such a condition)
your name is not to be found in His book.”

Who may be called happy? Who is the companion of a Saint. And this is also today’s message for us: We should be united only with our Lord, with our Master, so that He may give His grace, however, not only to us He should give His blessing, but to His whole creation.

When two or three of us are sitting together in His name, He is with us to listen to the voice of our heart. There is only one way to get peace: to sit under His flag, under His protecting umbrella, and to get His colour.
